Blueskykitchen.com has inserted some more crafty ‘know how’ into their “How to Design Build and Outfit You Own Camp Kitchen” book. In fact, eight additional years worth of camp kitchen evolution has been added to the original version. ( This is why it is referred to as the ‘plus 8’ version. )
The basic concept of the first edition book was to take a builder from a camping checklist, to an equipment inventory, to a chuckbox, for consolidating those camp kitchen items into one easily remember and transported box. Other ideas and suggestions were the concept of ‘nesting’ in order to save space, getting double duty out of devices such as wash tubs and drain that could be used as drawers in the stored state and the ground breaking revelation of ‘skin and bones’ construction. This is the doorway to light weight, yet strong products.
This ‘plus eight’ version includes all the original information and also introduces many other concepts and ideas. For example, the concept of converting from legs to a stand for stability and strength reasons. Perhaps most importantly this second edition book covers the ever important concept of adding shelves and leafs as a means of creating more camping table space. The current great ‘Spruce Goose ’ chuckbox trend is discussed (and discouraged ) and a hybrid material concept is presented along with a number of other woodworking ideas.
